Membership
The TMA is an all volunteer organization that is dedicated to improving the
scuba diving experience in Tobermory. As described elsewhere in this site,
our most ambitious project has been the sinking of the Niagara II. Now that
our loan for this project has been retired, we are turning our attention to
future projects. Our ability to implement future projects is directly
tied both to our ability to raise the necessary funds and to involve capable
people who can initiate and direct these efforts. Accordingly we have simplified
our membership structure. Instead of the former three tier structure, we now
offer one level of membership.
The annual membership fee for the Tobermory Maritime Association is now $100/year.
Members of the TMA participate in a number of areas, such as:
- Maintaining moorings on the Niagara II and other dive sites outside Fathom Five
National Park
- Developing and participating in fund raising initiatives.
- Developing policies and activities.
- Planning future projects.

Why should Tobermory commercial establishments join the TMA?
|
|
Scuba diving is one of the major activities that draws visitors to the Tobermory
area. Once here, scuba divers patronize more than just the dive shops and
charter boats. They buy groceries, gas, restaurant meals, souvenirs and stay
in motels or campgrounds. In fact, most divers spend far more on related
services than they spend on diving. Everyone in town benefits from this activity.
The scuba diving industry has become much more competitive as
other locations in Ontario improve their diving facilities. We can
only maintain our status as one of the best diving locations if we continue
to provide new and better diving opportunities.
Therefore, every business has a vested interest in a flourishing scuba diving
community. Accordingly, we strongly encourage all local business to join the TMA.

Why should other dive shops join the TMA?
|
|
Many dive shops and scuba charter companies bring their boats and customers to
to Tobermory. We welcome their visits and are proud to share the beauty of
our local dive sites with them. During their visits, most groups will use
the moorings on the Niagara II, Caroline Rose, Caves, San Jacinto or City of
Cleveland. The TMA provides both the funding and the manpower to place and
maintain these moorings.
Therefore, we strongly encourage every dive operation
that brings divers to Tobermory to join the TMA. In this way, we all support
the maintenance of dives sites outside the Fathom Five boundary. Your
membership will also support the development of additional dive sites
for your future Tobermory visits.
